Catching Megan’s
Wave of Goodness
In December 2020 we partnered with Megan Niccoli to help in her efforts to support the Ronald McDonald House in Salt Lake City, UT. We were touched by her story, and knew we wanted to get involved:
“Throughout my son Matteo’s short life of 6 ½ months we received so much help. It was the sort of kindness and generosity that makes you believe in humanity again, not just by people we knew and loved but also by people we hadn’t seen in years, as well as complete strangers. We were the benefactors of so much kindness when we especially needed it. Sometimes it was a hard pill to swallow, but we were so thankful that other people were willing. After Matteo died I knew on his birthday we had to do something to not only pay it forward, but do it for him in his name to make him proud. The Ronald McDonald house was the perfect fit. We knew first hand what these families were going through, and how hard it was to have to watch your child suffer, and to want more than anything to just take it all away. We started with what we are good at: food. Our first year, we catered dinner for 70 people that were staying at the Ronald McDonald house at that time, and gathered donations from a few friends and family that knew what we were doing and wanted to donate to the cause. Each successive year we have tried to do a little bit more and add one additional thing to help. This is our 5th year. And again, because of the generosity of those around us, we were able to provide meals for over 250 people and donate thousands of dollars in gift cards, and necessary items for the families staying at the Ronald McDonald house. Some people gave hundreds, others gave $5. All of it made a difference and created more impact that we could possibly have hoped for. We couldn’t make near the impact we have, without these donations, big and small.”
Megan has created a wave of goodness each year that just keeps growing and growing. Waves of Goodness Foundation wanted to help her build that wave just a little higher. $1000 was donated to help these families who are worrying about their children’s health and are just trying to be near them during every step of the process. We encourage everyone to give to this organization, in whatever capacity or amount you are able. Like Megan shared, it’s not the dollar amount that matters. $5 helps! Let’s keep this wave of goodness going, and reaching as many families in need as possible.
Donating to De-escalation Efforts
This month [November 2020] we donated to the Orem Police Department, to help with their ongoing efforts to provide a safe environment for the community. Our funds are helping some of their officers receive additional, special training on de-escalation techniques. We couldn’t be happier to be involved in an effort to protect all human lives.
We all have the power to be a positive influence wherever our daily routine takes us. Change doesn’t happen over night. But we know that change comes from the power of the individual to help in their communities and in their neighborhoods. We can’t wait to see what we’re all able to do, one day at a time!

Waves of Goodness sponsored this documentary, created by BYU journalism students in 2019. It has since been given an award from The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS, also known as the company behind the Emmys): The Best Long-form Nonfiction Film. And before that, this film was also given an Award of Excellence from the Broadcast Education Association.
This was an important project for Waves of Goodness because this pilgrimage played a key part in our creation, and it represents the kindness of the human spirit. We believe that kindness should be a part of the journey. That, along your way, wherever you are in your day, find moments to serve, to cheer, to connect, to be kind. As each individual does so, we make friendships, we become unified in a single good cause, and we create waves that ripple outward from us.
